These game used bat cards were inserted into 2001 Donruss Classics at a rate of 1:18 Hobby packs and 1:72 retail packs. None of the cards are serial numbered, however Donruss did release print runs for the cards that were short printed. Additionally some of the cards were available only as exchange cards and are noted as such in the checklist below. | These game used bat cards were inserted into 2001 Donruss Classics at a rate of 1:18 Hobby packs and 1:72 retail packs. Description
2001 Donruss Classics is a 198-card set. It is best known for being one of the first products that successfully combined current players and rookies with retired Hall of Famers, and its "Minibox" packaging.
Each 18-pack Hobby box came packaged as two, nine-pack miniboxes. Each minibox should yield two serial-numbered base cards, one game-used memorabilia card, and either a second memorabilia card or an autograph.
The base set consists of a 100 card short set, 50 Rookies each serial-numbered to 585 copies, and 48 Legends all numbered to 1755. Cards #162 (Sandy Koufax) and #185 (Robin Roberts) were supposed to be removed from the final product due to licensing issues (Upper Deck had signed Koufax to an exclusive contract), but some Koufax and Roberts cards did make their way into packs. The set is considered complete without either.
Distribution
- Hobby: Two nine-pack miniboxes per box, 6 cards per pack (MSRP: $11.99).
- Retail Blasters: Eight packs per box (MSRP: $19.99), three cards per pack.

Chicago Collection parallels the 100 card short set, which each card serial-numbered to five and having a unique foil stamp.
Autographs & Game-Used
2001 Donruss Classics hobby boxes were among the most prolific boxes in terms of game used insert cards of any baseball card set up until that point with at least 3 game used cards and 1 autographed card per 18 pack hobby box. Many of the high end inserts were issued as exchange cards that could be redeemed until September 10, 2003.
Benchmarks
The 24-card set was inserted 1:18 hobby and 1:72 retail packs. Each card features a piece of a dugout bench from the recently-demolished Three Rivers Stadium.
NOTE: Cards BM-11, BM-19, and BM-24 all packed out as exchange cards which expired September 10th, 2003. Both BM-11 (Willie Stargell) and BM-24 (Hank Aaron) are very rare but it is believed that card BM-19 -- rumored to have been Sandy Koufax -- does not exist.

Legendary Lumberjacks
These game used bat cards were inserted into 2001 Donruss Classics at a rate of 1:18 Hobby packs and 1:72 retail packs. None of the cards are serial numbered, however Donruss did release print runs for the cards that were short printed. Additionally some of the cards were available only as exchange cards and are noted as such in the checklist below.
This set features some of the first game used memorabilia pieces of Hack Wilson, Rogers Hornsby, Nellie Fox, Jimmie Foxx, Ty Cobb and Lou Gehrig. Overall the checklist of players is fairly extensive (39 of the 50 players are in the Hall of Fame) but with the low print runs of the Gehrig and Ruth cards along with the fact that several of the cards were only available as exchange cards, completing this set can be quite challenging.
