Description

1959 Fleer Ted Williams is an 80-card set, and has an ACC designation of R418-1. In an effort to enter the baseball card market, but blocked by Topps' exclusivity agreements with the players, Fleer signed Ted Williams to an exclusive contract of their own. The wording of the wrapper, "Baseball's Greatest Series," has led to speculation that Fleer contemplated similar sets honoring other baseball immortals, but chose to develop instead the format of the 1960 and 1961 issues.

In 2005, Fleer bought back an entire autographed set and randomly inserted it into packs of 2005 National Pastime.

Card #68, which was withdrawn early in production, is considered scarce and has even been counterfeited; the fake has a rosy coloration and a cross-hatch pattern visible over the picture area. The card numbering is arranged essentially in chronological order.

Distribution

24 packs per box, six or eight cards per pack.
