2001 Donruss Signature Series

Description

2001 Donruss Signature Series is a 311-card set released in October 2001. As with the Signature Series sets produced by Donruss in the 90s, each pack contains one autograph. In addition, each 25-card "gift box" will yield two of a possible serial-numbered "rookie" cards -- although the vast majority of which are not "true" rookies.

Most, but not all, autographs in this product are stickers.

NOTE: Each box contained 22 base cards, and were collated so that five boxes could yield a full 110-card set -- provided you didn't get two of the same box containing the same base cards.

Autographed Rookies

Each "Autographed Rookie" is serial-numbered to 330 copies.

NOTE: Cards #122, #136, #143 and #146 are NOT autographed, yet are in this subset anyway.

Rookies

Each card in the un-autographed "Rookie" subset is serial-numbered to 800 copies.

Parallels

All 311 base cards are available in a "Proof" parallel. Each base card is serial-numbered to 175 copies while the Rookies (autographed and un-autographed) are numbered to 25. Like in the base set, the Proofs are also autographed.

Chicago Collection

Created as part of a promotion surrounding a card show, the Chicago Collection is a partial-parallel of the first 110 base set cards. Collector's attending the March, 2002 Chicago Sun-Times who opened Hobby packs of any 2001 or 2002 Donruss-Playoff baseball product at the D-P booth would receive Chicago Collection cards -- one card for each pack.

Each Chicago Collection card is foil-stamped on the front and serial-numbered to five copies.

Hawaii Trade Show

Attendees of the "Meet the Industry" event at the 2002 Hawaii Trade Conference were entitled to receive from Donruss-Playoff either a special Donruss Signature Series box, or a Playoff Contenders Football box. Each Donruss Signature Series Baseball box contained a selection of base set parallels and one autograph.

Each Hawaii Trade Show card is foil-stamped on the front and serial-numbered. Cards 1-110 are numbered to 25 copies while cards from the Rookie subset are numbered to ten. None of the Rookie parallels are autographed and not all Rookies were included.

• Each card is serial-numbered to 100 copies EXCEPT Roger Clemens who autographed only 50. In addition, Clemens did not sign any Masters Series cards.
• Many of the cards feature an inscription featuring the respective player's nickname, which are printed on the card and denoted below.
• Luis Gonzalez and Ivan Rodriguez did not inscribe their respective nicknames.
• Frank Thomas inscribed his cards "93 94 AL MVP."
• Duke Snider inscribed his cards with his uniform number: #4.
• Unlike most of the other autographs in this set, all autographs are signed on-card.
