Description

1996 Stadium Club is a 450-card set released in two series.

The set includes a Team TSC subset (181-270). These subset cards were slightly short-printed in comparison to the other cards in the set. Though not confirmed by the manufacturer, it is believed that card number 22 (Roberto Hernandez) is a short-print.

For the first time, Stadium Club was issued as a factory set packaged in mini-cereal box type cartons and made available through mass-market retail outlets.

Extreme Players

This 180-card partial parallel set was part of a contest. 18 players (nine in each series) from 10 different positions (the eight fielding positions plus a starting pitcher and a closer) were selected and at the conclusion of the 1996 regular season, an "Extreme Player" from each position was identified as a winner based on a statistical formula. (The 10 winning players are noted with a "W" below.) Collectors could then take the Extreme Player card of a winning player and redeem it for a prize.

Collectors bearing an Bronze card of one of the winning players could redeem it for an Extreme Winners Bronze set of all 10 winning players. A winning Silver winning card would be entitled to an Extreme Winners set done on Finest-style chromium stock. While the 10 Gold winners could trade their card for a glass-coated, chromium-stock, Finest-style card of their player in return.

Members Only Factory Set

Topps offered to members of their Stadium Club a special "Members Only" factory set. Each card is struck with a special "Members Only" logo and includes all 450 base cards plus the following inserts: Bash and Burn, Mickey Mantle Heroes, Megaheroes, Metalists, Midsummer Matchups, Power Packed, Power Streak, Prime Cuts and TSC Awards. Only 750 Members Only sets were produced.
