Hobby/Retail: 24 packs per box, four cards per pack (MSRP: $4).
"Best of Chrome" Box: Five packs of Topps Chrome, five packs of [[2010 Bowman Chrome]], one Hobby pack of [[2010 Bowman Platinum]], two Million Card Giveaway code cards, and a five-card exclusive Chrome Refractor set. (MSRP: $29.99) Sold exclusively at Target stores.

By extrapolation, roughly 105,000 hobby boxes were distributed. This is four times the amount of hobby boxes of 2009 Topps Chrome.

In an effort to placate collectors who pre-ordered Topps Chrome before Stephen Strasburg's season ending injury; on September 30th, 2010, announced this wrapper redemption program. Collectors who sent in a full Hobby box's worth of wrappers (24), would then receive three Refractor variation cards from a special 15-card set. Every tenth pack will contain three Green Refractor parallels, each serial-numbered to 599 copies.  Some packs could also find an autograph from Jason Heyward or Buster Posey (see below).

TC4 Mike Leake
Only Hobby wrappers are eligible for this promotion and expired February 28th, 2011. Collectors started receiving these in the mail during the last week in November of 2010. The collation is as follows:

TC5 Justin Upton
Pack 1: Ruth/Colvin/Heyward

TC6 Gordon Beckham
Pack 2: Cobb/Leake/Jackson

'''NOTES'''

TC11 Pablo Sandoval
* All cards in this redemption set are Refractors.
* Topps used a different vendor than the one that printed the Topps Chrome and Bowman Chrome sets, and as such, these cards do not suffer from the "bowing" issues that plagued those sets.
* Cards #221-226 do not exist in the base set, so identifying them should be no issue.
* Even though Buster Posey's card is sequentially-numbered as an extension of the base set, and sports the "RC" icon, card #221 is NOT a true rookie.
* Among cards #174-#212: For the hitters, Topps used a photo where the player is following through on a swing.  For the variation cards of pitchers Mike Leake and Stephen Strasburg, both are shown in the middle of their respective deliveries.
* Although numbered #226, Mickey Mantle's variation card also uses a different photo from his Topps Chrome base card (#7).  While his base card shows him in the field, card #226 shows Mantle running the bases.

Beginning with 2010 Chrome, the annual Autographed Rookie subset was removed from the base set and made into a pseudo-parallel.  In ensuing years, the Rookie Autographs would be sequentially-numbered as their own distinct (insert) set, but for 2010 each player's card shares the same number as their base card.

Description

Arriving on October 5, 2010, 2010 Topps Chrome features a 220 base set consisting of 170 veterans and 50 rookie cards. Inserts include chrome versions of that year's National Chicle, Heritage, and 206 cards, with the Heritage chrome cards a continuation of the Chrome parallels found in Heritage packs.

In an effort to placate collectors who pre-ordered Topps Chrome before Stephen Strasburg's season ending injury; Topps announced two promotions.

The first is a wrapper redemption program. Collectors who send in a full Hobby box's worth of wrappers (24), will receive three "variation" Refractors from a special 15-card set. Every tenth pack will contain three Refractor parallels.

The second is called the 2010 Chrome Baseball Bounty Card Contest. During this contest, Topps will announce existing Chrome cards as "bounty cards". If you had these bounty cards and sent Topps a photo of yourself holding the cards, you would have won a prize.

It appears, based on the massive amount of pre-orders -- mostly fueled by the Strasburg-Mania of 2010 -- that Topps may have increased the production of Hobby cases by a factor of four.

2010 Topps Chrome cards are subject to extreme top-to-bottom curling. Rumor has it that Topps used a different printing company for these cards thus the curling issues.

Distribution

Hobby/Retail: 24 packs per box, four cards per pack (MSRP: $4).

"Best of Chrome" Box: Five packs of Topps Chrome, five packs of 2010 Bowman Chrome, one Hobby pack of 2010 Bowman Platinum, two Million Card Giveaway code cards, and a five-card exclusive Chrome Refractor set.

Only Hobby wrappers are eligible for this promotion and expired February 28th, 2011. Collectors started receiving these in the mail during the last week in November of 2010. The collation is as follows:

Pack 1: Ruth/Colvin/Heyward

Pack 2: Cobb/Leake/Jackson

Pack 3: Robinson/Castro/Strasburg

Pack 4: Mantle/Posey/Davis

Pack 5: Gehrig/Stanton/Santana

NOTES

  • All cards in this redemption set are Refractors.
  • Topps used a different vendor than the one that printed the Topps Chrome and Bowman Chrome sets, and as such, these cards do not suffer from the "bowing" issues that plagued those sets.
  • Cards #221-226 do not exist in the base set, so identifying them should be no issue.
  • Even though Buster Posey's card is sequentially-numbered as an extension of the base set, and sports the "RC" icon, card #221 is NOT a true rookie.
  • Among cards #174-#212: For the hitters, Topps used a photo where the player is following through on a swing. For the variation cards of pitchers Mike Leake and Stephen Strasburg, both are shown in the middle of their respective deliveries.
  • Although numbered #226, Mickey Mantle's variation card also uses a different photo from his Topps Chrome base card (#7). While his base card shows him in the field, card #226 shows Mantle running the bases.

In an effort to liquidate excess Topps Chrome inventory, Topps created "Best of Chrome" value boxes -- which were exclusive to Target stores. Each Best of Chrome box contained five retail packs of 2010 Topps Chrome, five retail packs of 2010 Bowman Chrome, a Hobby pack of 2010 Bowman Platinum, two Million Card Giveaway code cards, and this five-card "Best of Chrome" set exclusive to these boxes.

NOTE: The photograph on each Rookie Autograph is different than that used on the player's corresponding base Chrome card. All autographs are signed on-card.

Each Rookie Autograph is available in the following Refractor parallels.

  • Refractor (serial-numbered to 499 copies)
  • Blue Refractor (serial-numbered to 199 copies)
  • Gold Refractor (serial-numbered to 50 copies)
  • Red Refractor (serial-numbered to 25 copies)
  • SuperFractor (one-of-one, Hobby only)
  • Printing Plate (four-for-each, Hobby only)
